Supranuclear Palsy

Progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP) may be a condition that's characterized by gradual decline and death of a selected brain tumour. This condition can lead to symptoms such as loss of balance, slowness, difficulty in eye movement, and dementia. PSP may be defective in other neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson's and Alzheimer's. The cause of this condition is uncertain, but tau protein accumulates in the brain. Medicines such as pododopa and amantadine may work in some cases. PSP affects six out of 100,000 people. Early symptoms usually occur in 60-70 year olds. Males are less affected than females. No relationship was found between the PSP and any race, place or occupation.
