Genetic Markers

A genetic marker  may be a DNA sequence with a known physical location on a chromosome. ... DNA segments on the brink of one another on a chromosome tend to be inherited together. Genetic markers are wont to track the inheritance of a close-by gene that has not yet been identified, but whose approximate location is understood . Mapping the human genome requires a group of genetic markers. DNA polymorphism is a gene for its own location within the chromosome; thus, they're convenient for analysis and are often used as in molecular genetic studies.
