Good clinical practice (GCP) is an international standard of consistency for performing clinical trials that is established by ICH in certain countries, an international body that establishes a set of guidelines that governments may then transpose into legislation for clinical trials involving humans. GCP follows the GCP guidelines of the International Conference on Harmonization of Technical Requirements for the Registration of Pharmaceuticals for Human Use ( ICH). GCP enforces strict guidelines on ethical aspects of a clinical trial. High standards are required for detailed clinical treatment documentation, record-keeping, training, and facilities like computers and software. Quality assurance and inspections ensure they achieve these standards. GCP seeks to ensure that the experiments are clinically accurate and that adequate recording is made of the therapeutic properties of the investigational drug. All other GCP values are permeated by three fundamental ethical standards of equal value, namely reverence for individuals, beneficence and justice. Work involving humans should be justified scientifically, and outlined in a simple, thorough procedure.
