Abstract

Titaniumdioxide as an eco-friendly and recyclable catalyst for the synthesis of 1,1-diacetate under solvent-free conditions

Author(s): Kiran F.Shelke, Laxman S.Gadekar

A simple, highly versatile and efficient method for the synthesis of 1,1- diacetates (acylals) is achieved from the various aliphatic, aromatic and heteroaryl aldehydes with acetic anhydride at room temperature under solvent-free conditions using titanium dioxide (TiO2) as catalyst. The key advantages of this process are mild condition, excellent chemoselectivity, easy work-up, excellent yields, very short time reactions and use of nontoxic, inexpensive, recyclable heterogeneous catalyst.
