Synthesis, Spectral Characterization and Antimicrobial Studies of Novel Benzimidazole Derivatives

2-Chloromethyl-1H-benzimidazole derivatives were prepared by condensing 2-Chloromethyl- 1H-benzimidazole with different heterocycles. The synthesized derivatives were characterized by IR, 1 H NMR, 13C NMR (1D, 2D NMR) and elemental analysis. The compounds were screened for in vitro and microbial activity against panel of selected gram positive and gram negative bacterial strains using Ciprofloxacin as standard.
