Abstract
Synthesis of vitamin B12 by actinomycetes isolated from forest soils and its occurrence in wild animals feces
Author(s): K.Vijaya Bhaskar, A.DayanandA total of 16 actinomycetes were isolated from vegetative soil samples of Nallamala forest and screened for their efficiency for the production of vitamin B12.Among the 16 actinomycetes, Streptomyces DVB1 (1.328ïÂÂg/ ml) and StreptomycesDVB11 (1.217ïÂÂg/ml) yielded higher titers of vitamin B12. In addition to this, various animalsÂ’ fecal samples were screened and found highest content of vitamin B12 in tiger feceswith 1.057ïÂÂg/mg of fecal matter.
