The existence of one of the compound (H2L) in the intramolecularly hydrogen-bonded enol form and other (L) in the keto-form have been well demonstrated from their IR, 1H NMR and mass spectral data. Dibasic tetradentate coordination of H2L in its [M2L2] complexes and neutral bidentate coordination of L in its [ML(OAc)2] complexes [M = Ni(II) and Cu(II)] have been established on the basis of analytical and spectral data.
