Synthesis and antimicrobial studies on some new 3-chloro-1-benzothiophene-2-carbonylchloride derivatives

2-(3-Chloro-1-benzothiophen-2-yl)-2H-benzotriazole 5 has been synthesized in a three step procedure starting from 3-chloro-N-(2-nitrophenyl)-1- benzothiophene-2-carboximidoylchloride via a 5-(3-chloro-1-benzothiophen- 2-yl)-1-(2-nitrophenyl)-1H-tetrazole intermediate. 3-Chloro-N-(3-chloro-4- fluorophenyl)-1-benzothiophene-2-carboximidoylisothiocyanatewas treated with substituted amines and phenols to get compounds 9a-g and 10a-d, separately. The structures of all the synthesized compounds were confirmed by spectral data and have been screened for antibacterial and antifungal activity.
