Abstract
Synthesis and antimicrobial activity of 2-alkylsulfanyl-3-quinoline carboxylic acid derivatives
Author(s): Mahmoud A.Amin, E.I.Ibrahim, M.I.A.Abady2-Alkylsulfanyl-4-oxo-1,4-dihydroquinoline-3-carboxylic acid-amide derivatives (4- 11) have been synthesized by reactions of 2-alkylsulfonyl-4- hydroxyquinolinecarboxylic acid (3), which can be prepared fromcommercially available aniline in five steps, with aromatic amines in good yields. Condensation of 4-chloro-2-methylsulfanyl-quinoline-3-carboxylic acid ethyl ester (12) with some nucleophilic reagents afford 4-substituted quinoline derivatives (13 -16). The antimicrobial activities of the synthesized compounds are tested towards bacteria.
