Abstract
Study of the adsorption of formic acid and acetic acid on activated carbon
Author(s): Samadani Langeroodi NargesPresent workwas undertaken to adsorption of formic acid and acetic acid on activated carbon in aqueous phase. The influence of initial acid concentration, contact time, adsorbent dosage and temperature has been studied. The Langmuir and Freundlich model gives a good representation of the adsorption of the studied carboxylic acids. The results showed the studied carboxylic acids removal were increased by increase of contact time and adsorbent dosage, while decreased by increase of initial acid concentration and temperature. At contact time equal 60 min, adsorbent dosage 1.5 g/50 ml and initial acid concentration of 0.1 mol.l-1 removal efficiency was obtained 91 % for formic acid and 80% for acetic acid.
