Enaminone (2) was reacted with different active methylene reagents to give the novel pyridine derivatives (6,18 and 23) respectively. Compound (2) reacted with hippuric acid in acetic anhydride to yield product assumed to be the pyranone (23). Similarly, enaminone (2) reacted with phenyl acetone to give the adduct (24). Also, enaminone (2) reacted with hydrazine or phenyl hydrazine to give the pyrazoles (25) and (28), and with guanidine gave pyrimidine derivative (31). Furthermore, enaminone (2) was reacted withDMF-DMAto give the dienaminone (32). Compound (23) was also obtained in one step by the reaction of (1) with two mole ofDMF-DMA. Compound (23) reacted with aniline and acetic acid to give compounds (33) and (34) respectively.
