Abstract

Macrocyclic Schiff Bases Based on 1,3-Dithiocarbonyl Phenyl Dihydrazide

Author(s): Ronald Ferry

The intermediate compounds 1,6-bis (2-formyl-phenyl) hexane, 1,6-bis (2-acetyl-phenyl) hexane,,'-bis(2-carboxyaldehyde phenoxy) xylene(VI), and 1,7-bis (2-formyl-phenyl)-1,4,7-trioxaheptane(VII) were condensed with 1,3-Dithi These macrocyclic Schiff bases ligands have been identified (VIII, IX, X, XI). Different spectral techniques were used to check the Schiff bases (LC-MS, 1 H-NMR, IR, elemental analyses). Electrochemical tests were used to assess these compounds' capacity to prevent mild steel corrosion in 1M H2 SO4. Antibacterial properties of the novel Macrocyclic Hydrazone Schiff Bases were investigated against Gram positive (Bacillus subtilis and Staphylococcus aureus) and Gram negative (Bacillus subtilis and Staphylococcus aureus) microorganisms (Salmonella typhi and Escherichia coli). The inhibitory action of the chemical ligands on bacterial growth was variable.
