Abstract
Enzyme formation and function revisited
Author(s): D.S.RobertsonIt is shown that the observations made of enzyme operation can be unified by considering that these compounds operate in conjunction with polyphosphoric acids which are incorporated into the enzyme structure during formation. Examples of the function of enzymes in hydration-dehydrating, deamination and decarboxylation reactions are presented. Physiological enzyme reactions such as pepsinogen and trypsin in the human digestive systemand other reactions in metabolismare described. Enzyme inhibition is also discussed.
