Determination of trace elements in medicinal plants of South India region by flame atomic absorption spectroscopy

The levels (ppm) of Fe, Mn, Cu, Co, Ni, Zn, Na, K, Mg and Ca in twenty important herbal plants, and soil were estimated by FAAS. Among all the trace elements, the estimated amount of Fe was highest and ranged between 28.3ppm in Ficus Carica to 12979ppm in Terminalia Arjuna. The concentration level of Ca was highest among all the micro elements. It ranged between 0.33%-4.4%. The lowest concentration of Ca was found in Pongamia Pinnata and highest in Coleus Forskohlii.
