Abstract
Antioxidant Potentials Of Roots Of Desmodium Gangeticum
Author(s): Hanumanthachar Joshi, R.A.ShastryIn the present study the aqueous and ethanol extracts of roots of Desmodium gangeticum was screened for antioxidant activity against CCl4 induced hepato toxicity in rats. Hepatotoxicity in rats was induced using carbon tetrachloride: Olive oil (1:1). DG (100 and 250mg/kg, p.o.) significantly increased glutathione s-transferase, glutathione reductase, super oxide dismutase, glutathione peroxidase, catalase and decreased lipid peroxidation levels. Hence D.gangeticum can be of enormous use in the treatment and management of hepatic disorders.
