Anti inflammatory activity of various extracts ofHedyotis umbellata linn
Author(s): S.Mahibalan, N.Gopal, P.Shanmuga Pandian, S.JasmineThe powdered aerial parts of Hedyotis umbellata (Rubiaceae)were screened for anti inflammatory activity by carrageenan and histamine induced rat pawedema method at a dose of 100 mg/kg body weight, using Ibuprofen as standard drug. All the three extracts i.e., petroleum ether (60-80o), ethyl acetate and methanol exhibited 40%of inhibition of inflammation, while the standard drug at the same dose produce 45% of inhibition. Hence, it is concluded that aerial parts of Hedyotis umbellata found to have significant anti inflammatory activity.
