Aseries of 2-(substituted phenyl)-3-(5Â’-methyl thiazole)-4-thiazolidinones (4), 2-(substituted phenyl)-3-(5Â’-methyl thiazole)-5-methyl-4- thiazolidinones (5) and 4-(substituted phenyl)-3-chloro-1-yl-(5Â’-methyl thiazole)-2-azetidinones (6) were prepared by cyclocondensation of thioglycolic acid, thiolactic acid and chloroacetyl chloride in presence of triethyl amine with different Schiffbases, which in turn were prepared by the 2-amino-5-methylthiazolewith different substituted aromatic aldehydes (2). The structures of newly synthesized compounds have been characterized on the basis of elemental analysis, IR and 1H NMR spectra. All the synthesised compounds have been screened for their antimicrobial activity.
