A short protocol for the synthesis of ïÂÂÂÃ‚Â§-carboxy-ïÂÂÂÃ‚Â§-lactones has been developed via hydroboration followed by oxidation of ïÂÂÂÃ‚Â¡-hydroxy-4-pentenoates.
